RVIA: October RV and Motorcoach Shipments Set All-Time Record

The RV Industry Association (RVIA)’s October survey of manufacturers announced the October RV and Motorcoach Shipments.  The month of October has set an all-time record in the RV industry.  Manufacturers have produced the highest production total of any month on record.  Through the first ten months of 2021, the association reported 510,608 RVs have been built.  This is a spike of 1.2 percent from the previous 504,599 total manufactured in 2017.

“With this latest report, 2021 officially becomes the year the RV industry built more RVs than ever before—and that is with two months left in the year,” said RVIA President and CEO Craig Kirby.

Setting a new record in the industry

The association reported 57,971 units shipped last month.  This resulted in an increase of 22.5 percent more manufactured RVs compared to the 47,326 units shipped during October 2020. Moreover, year-to-date shipments increased by 18% which surpassed the October 2017 total of 48,926 units. The m month of October took center stage with 55,014 units built.  This is a 5 percent increase from September’s production total.

Trip planning in RVs increases over a year ago

Overall, this new shipment report comes on the tail of a recently released survey.  This survey revealed that more Americans plan on RVing in the next year than ever before. Impressively, the survey revealed that 2 million American RVers planning a trip in 2022 in a unit they own, rent, or borrow.  This result is an 18 percent increase over the 61 million reported in the same survey a year ago.

“Despite the challenges we have faced with supply chain and workforce, what is really remarkable is the way the RV industry has found ways to overcome the issues.  Delivering 12 straight months of record shipments,” Kirby said.

“We know more and more people want to get outdoors and experience the joys of RVing with their friends and families.  Manufacturers and suppliers have responded to keep RVs heading to dealerships every month.”

Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers

Comparatively, towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, ended the month up 23.3 percent.  Furthermore, this number is against last October with 52,856 wholesale shipments. In addition, motorhomes finished the month up 14.4 percent.  That number compares to the same month last year with 5,115 units.

As for Park Model RVs ended the month up 6.3 percent compared to October 2020, with 354 wholesale shipments.

“Regardless of the impeccable trim level, once the slides are pushed out, your coach becomes a small, drafty home.  It is completely exposed to all the elements of living on the road.”

Why forced air alone doesn’t keep your motorcoach comfortable

  • A typical RV furnace is 70% efficient. This means that 30% of your heating fuel doesn’t contribute to heat the coach.
  • Radiant heating is 100% efficient.  This heat keeps the coach at a comfortable temperature. Forced heat rises and stays on the ceiling. Gold Heat stays on the floor.
  • Forced-air becomes overheated, dry and uncomfortable.
  • Forced-air furnace fan is noisy and disruptive.
  • Forced-air vents blow dust, pet fur, and pollen, as well as exhaust and cooking odors, swirling about the cabin.

Why Gold Heat and Black Gold radiant floor heat keeps your motorcoach comfortable

  1. Warms rooms, not ceilings: Gold Heat underfloor heat puts heat near people.  Radiant heat keeps extremities warm and the room comfortable.
  2. Uniform, ideal heat pattern: Electric radiant heat applies heat gently with even energy distribution thanks to consistent heating element patterns.
  3. Say goodbye to drafty rooms: Reducing or eliminating the use of forced air heat means no drafts created by blowing fans.
  4. Invisible and silent: No unsightly vents, no audible fans, total comfort with no interruptions.
  5. Individual room control: Take total control of your home comfort with room-specific thermostats for your radiant floor heat.
